o şe mi laanu means I empathize . Man cannot empathize with God. The composer of this song wants to advertise the King that had mercy on him. Unfortunately, many worshippers do not
understand the nuance of this Yoruba phrase “o şe mi laanu”. When you empathize with someone, that person has issues; your kind heart feels for and pities the person. That person here is the King(God). How can we pity God?
. The lyrics need to be re-worked. Song sounds great, the meaning is different. Check with people who understand Yoruba. Not anglicized Yoruba. God bless your ministry more and more.

I was in search for the lyrics of the song and i came across your post.
I viewed this from perspective of Testimony(ies) sharing, after you have experienced the “Hand of God” in your Life.
I believe behind every Song (of course as you are moved by the Holyspirit to write a song) is a motivation by the act of God in your life on what you experienced.
(Psalms 89:1-9 NKJV: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations…)
I believe the author King David had witnessed the mercies of God in His life. He did many things God forgave him. He was in trouble severally, God kept Him. So when he remembered all these act of God in his life, why won’t he (King David)sing of the mercies of the LORD for Ever.
Also in this testimony from David about Moses of God (Psalms 103:7-13 Amplified Bible
He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in compassion and lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever
Another song “Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound) That sav’d a wretch like me!” was done by a slave trader who escaped the storm on a slave ship and was saved. He gave his life to God. And he released the song Amazing grace after remembering how God saved Him.
Remember the another song by Korede – “Mor′aanu gba. Ire wole wa. Mo gba letter kan. Mo r’esi ayo. Mo r′oke mo dele. Adura mi gba o. O ti dun mo faramo. Ajinde ayo.Ah… En What you gonna do? –
The concluding question of this song asked a question that what are you going to do after you have received all these blessing Korede mentioned in the early part of the song.
He said he will sing praises to the King Most High.
Now in conclusion, the song “O se mi laanu” might not mean “I empathize with God” but it’s more of sharing testimony of God’s Act in your life.
Remember Hannah in 1Sam 1:9-28 – She prayed to God, reminding God that she was God’s servant and wanted but one thing only. Then she made a promise. She said: “Oh, God Almighty, if you will only see my misery and remember me by giving me a son, then I will give my son to serve you, God, for all the days of his life.”
Hannah’s prayer “give me a son, then I will give my son to serve you” is a commitment similar to T’oluwa ba se mi laanu , emi a polongo re. but in this case, God had already done His own path (O se mi l’aanu) and the writer is asserting his/her commitment that:
“I will broadcast your name to the outermost part of the world” which is also similar to the commitment the psalmist made when he said “With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations” – THIS IS Covenant Commitment with God which does not translate to empathy.
God Bless You
